Sheth Khimji Ramdas Kanya Vidyalaya was established in 1950 with the vision of promoting girls' education. This noble initiative was the brainchild of Late Shri Gokaldas Khimji and Shri Mathradas Khimji, originally residents of Mandvi, Muscat (Oman). The Khimji brothers embarked on this educational expedition to Kutch with a mission to uplift the status of women through education.
As the school progressed steadily, the Khimji family envisioned extending its benefits to girls from rural areas of Kutch, who often lacked access to quality education. To address this, in 1963, the Sheth Khimji Ramdas Girls' Hostel was established. This modern facility was designed to accommodate 140 girls and became a haven for students from towns like Rapar, Bhachau, Anjar, Bhuj, and other rural areas.
The school and hostel were managed under the same administration, ensuring a seamless integration of academics and life skills. The hostel emphasized teaching students not just formal education but also essential life skills, cultural values, and practical knowledge. Key activities included:
A remarkable feature of this hostel was its commitment to inclusivity. Admission was open to all, irrespective of caste or creed. The girls were taught values like equality, respect, and self-reliance, helping them develop a strong foundation of morals and social consciousness.
The hostel became a transformative space where girls from diverse backgrounds learned life skills, imbibed cultural values, and prepared for a brighter future. Over the years, many students graduated from the school and hostel, eventually settling into successful careers and lives. These alumni often return to the hostel, cherishing the fond memories of their time there and expressing gratitude for the lessons that shaped their lives.
